Lashunda Scales - District 1 Representative
Birmingham City Councilor Lashunda Scales is Chair of the
Economic Development Committee and is a member of the
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Committee and the
Public Improvements and Beautification Committee.
Advocating for the rights of the "city's most vulnerable residents," Councilor Scales has successfully advocated for a moratorium on new
payday loan, title pawn and check-cashing businesses in the City of Birmingham.
Affectionately known by the youth in her district as “Momma Scales,” Councilor Scales passionately embraces the goals of the Birmingham City Schools within her district. She is noted for her annual black history writing and oratorical contests.
A proud native of Birmingham, Alabama and a product of the Birmingham City School System, Councilor Scales attended Stillman College and received an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Jefferson State Community College.
An entrepreneur within her own right, she is a national public relations and marketing consultant, who founded Scales Public Relations and Marketing Firm in the year 2000.
Councilor Scales and her husband, Michael, have two beautiful daughters and are faithful members of Faith Chapel Christian Center.
