District 6 Farmers Market Returns to Memorial Park on July 20th

PRESS RELEASE

In an effort to make fresh foods more accessible to her constituents, Birmingham City Councilor Crystal Smitherman (District 6) and her staff are hosting monthly Farmers Markets throughout the summer at Memorial Park.

“Much of my district is considered a food desert; which means there is limited access to fresh vegetables and fruits within a reasonable distance from where my constituents live,” remarked Smitherman. “One of my main goals throughout my term as city councilor for District 6 is to help bridge the gaps in access to fresh foods and healthy lifestyle choices.”

The first 25 shoppers will receive vouchers for $5 off.  All forms of payment are also accepted at the market, which will run from 1:30-3:30pm on Saturday, July 13th.

The final District 6 Farmers Market of the summer will take place in August 10th.  Stay tuned for additional details.
