Opt-in for Updates from the Birmingham City Council!

There are changes coming to the way you receive updates from the Birmingham City Council!
If you would like to receive messages to your cell phone about upcoming opportunities and events, meetings, important alerts, and more — you can opt in to the brand new JeffCoALert system, starting NOW!
HOW CAN I SIGN UP?
Click the green box that says “sign up” and fill in your information.  (Sections marked with a * are required fields)
Make sure you provide your cell phone number to receive text messages.  (Message and data rates may apply.) ***Your contact information will NOT be shared with outside parties.
After you have filled in your personal information, scroll down until you see a section that looks like this:
Check the box next to your Council district to receive updates that pertain to your Council representative.  You can also check the box next to Birmingham City Council News and Updates to receive general updates from the Birmingham City Council.
WHAT IF I DON’T KNOW MY DISTRICT OR COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE, AND WHY IS THAT IMPORTANT?
Knowing the Councilor who represents your neighborhood is not only important for this new alert system, but also to ensure that you have a voice in the decisions that impact you and your loved ones on the municipal level!  Opting into this new messaging system is a great first step towards figuring out how you can get more involved in the conversations that make Birmingham a better place to live, work, and play!
If you don’t know your District or Councilor, start by using our Find My District Map: https://www.birminghamalcitycouncil.org/find-your-district/
Just type in your address and use the color-coordinated mapping options to determine your District!  Then, come back here and sign up for updates from your Council representative.  In addition to important updates about your District–we’ll also let you know about opportunities for FREE fun events, giveaways, and opportunities to make your voice and opinions heard!
ARE THERE ANY OTHER OPTIONS TO OPT-IN TO THE NEW ALERT SYSTEM?
Sure!  Once you know your Council District — you can also opt-in to the new alert system by texting a keyword to the number: 38276
Here are the keywords for each District:
District 1, Councilor Clinton Woods: BHMDISTRICT1
District 2, Councilor Hunter Williams: BHMDISTRICT2
District 3, Councilor Valerie Abbott: BHMDISTRICT3
District 4, Councilor J.T. Moore: BHMDISTRICT4
District 5, Council President Darrell O’Quinn: BHMDISTRICT5
District 6, Councilor Crystal Smitherman: BHMDISTRICT6
District 7, Pro Tem Wardine Alexander: BHMDISTRICT7
District 8, Councilor Carol Clarke: BHMDISTRICT8
District 9, Councilor LaTonya Tate: BHMDISTRICT9
Or for general updates from the Birmingham City Council, text: BHMCITYCOUNCIL to the number 38276 in your text messaging app.
So for example, if you are a resident of District 1, text the word, BHMDISTRICT1 to 38276 to opt in for updates!  If you have done everything correctly, you should receive a confirmation text message.  You can opt out at any time!
