TRANSPORTATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE Committee
The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Advises on Matters Regarding: Transportation, generally, Airport and aviation, Ports, Railroads, Traffic engineering, Parking and related facilities and services, Certificates of Need for Public Conveyance, Shared use micromobility, Public transportation, Street lighting, Right of way, sidewalk, and street repairs, Engineering projects, Street dedications, Utilities, generally, Birmingham Water Works Board , Storm & wastewater, Internet & telecommunications, Public service vehicles, Radio and telephone, Taxis and jitney services, Towing & wrecker services
Committee Information
TASKS:
- Develops and maintains relationships with transportation and utilities entities including but not limited to the Alabama Department of Transportation, Alabama Public Service Commission, various railroad companies, Amtrak, Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham/Metropolitan Planning Organization, various utility companies, various telecommunications and internet service providers, indigent service entities (as it relates to transportation and utilities), etc.
- Recommend for appointment to the Birmingham Water Works Board, Birmingham Cable Commission, the Parking Authority Board, and the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority
- The committee reviews constituents’ complaints relative to existing utilities within the city limits and coordinates with utilities liaisons to bring about solutions
Additionally the committee makes recommendations for appointments to the following: Birmingham Cable Commission, the Parking Authority Board, and the Transit Advisory Committee. Appointments to the Birmingham Airport Authority are made by the Mayor.
